After the Harvest: Creating Space for What Comes Next
“And the sun took a step back, the leaves lulled themselves to sleep, and autumn was awakened.” - Raquel Franco
After every season of growth comes a season of rest — a moment to breathe, to clear space, and to prepare the ground for what’s next.
Autumn teaches us that endings are sacred pauses. Just as the earth needs time to recover after the harvest, we too need time to reset — to reflect, release, and ready ourselves for a new beginning.
The Wisdom of Rest
When the fields have been gathered and the last light of summer fades, nature doesn’t rush into replanting. It restores. It trusts the cycle.
In our own lives, this is the space between what was and what’s becoming. It’s the time to simplify, to pare back, and to listen. This quiet period when the energy shifts inward , is where clarity and renewal are born. Many of us resist the pause because we equate it with stillness or stagnation. But stillness is not the absence of movement ; it’s the space where intention, dreams, and ideas begin to take root.
Lessons from Nature
The trees release their leaves without fear that spring will not return. The earth softens, knowing that in rest lies regeneration. This rhythm is one we can mirror. Creating space for rest, reflection, and recalibration allows us to consciously design our next chapter rather than react to it.
Consider how this might look in your life right now:
Declutter your environment. Clear one area such as a desk, a drawer, or your digital files, to create literal space for what’s ahead.
Schedule white space. Block time on your calendar that’s free from obligation, just for creativity, rest, or quiet thinking.
Reflect on alignment. Ask yourself where you’re saying “yes” out of habit rather than purpose.
Let go of what’s complete. Projects, commitments, or relationships that have served their purpose can be lovingly released.
This act of letting go is the first step toward renewal.
Famous Harvesters
Throughout history, many well-known figures have shown us the courage it takes to pause before beginning again. The “in-between” isn't Just a quiet place; It's often where the most profound transformations begin.
Michelle Obama, spoke openly about this after leaving the White House sharing that she needed time to ‘exhale’ before defining what came next her memoir becoming is less about achievement and more about the ongoing journey of self evolution.
Oprah Winfrey, has often described how she intentionally withdraws at the end of major seasons in her life to realign and take time to listen deeply to what's next before acting.
Jane Fonda, now in her 80s ,calls this chapter of her life her “third act”. She downsized her home, simplified her commitments, and focused her energy on activism and purpose. She's a reminder that creating space doesn't mean slowing down; it means choosing with clarity. Each of these women model what it looks like to honor the natural rhythms of life: to rest reflect and clear space before stepping into a new season with renewed focus and grace.
The Role of Coaching and Feng Shui in Renewal
In coaching, this is the season where awareness becomes transformation. It’s when we turn reflection into rhythm, helping you simplify what matters and clear what doesn’t -both within and around you.
Just as nature rebalances itself after each harvest, Feng Shui teaches us that our environments mirror our inner state. When we clear and realign our physical spaces, we make energetic room for new opportunities, ideas, and experiences to flow in. Renewal not only in the mind and heart, but also in the homes and spaces that hold our lives.
At Santamita, we weave these principles together; the inner work of coaching and the outer harmony of design to help you realign your life for the season ahead. Our signature 8-week online course, A Life I Designed, and our True North Retreat are both rooted in this philosophy, guiding you to release what’s no longer aligned and intentionally design what’s next.
Both experiences invite you to pause long enough to hear the quiet wisdom that’s already within you — and to create space for your next, truer season.

Where do you feel called to rest, simplify, or create space?
What would it look like to enter the next season of your life more lightly?
What small ritual could you create to honor this time of transition?
