The Whisper That Changed My Path - and why yours might be trying to change your life too

by Lauren Wallace

For most of my life, creativity has been part of my identity. As a child, I spent hours drawing, painting, inventing worlds inside my imagination. It was natural. It was easy. It was who I was.

But somewhere between childhood and adulthood, many of us learn to devalue the parts of us that feel the most joyful.

We are encouraged to choose what is practical, what pays mortgages, what builds retirements, what earns respect in the world.

So in high school, I took physics instead of art. In University, I took Interior Design instead of fine arts. I remember hearing comments like “you can’t go to art school, that is not a real career.” Slowly, without really noticing, I began to tuck away the most creative parts of myself in order to build a life that looked successful on the outside.

I became very good at being practical. I became very good at achievement. But there was still a quiet and persistent whisper inside me.

A small voice that whispered come home to art. A brush stroke. A blank page. A single line of paint across white paper.

A whisper that never fully faded, no matter how busy adulthood became.

What We Call “The Whisper”

At Santamita, we teach something very specific.

Your whispers are not random. They are a form of guidance.

Whispers are the earliest signals of alignment calling you forward, before you have the evidence, before you have the plan, before you can articulate the reason.

Your whisper might show up as a nudge, an idea that will not leave you alone, a sudden fascination, or a creative impulse that makes no sense on paper.

Whispers are subtle. They do not disappear. They wait patiently for you to catch up.

The Moment I Chose to Listen

In recent years, I decided to stop resisting mine. I bought watercolor paper again and I made space in my schedule. I let myself explore color without purpose or productivity attached.

I did not know where it would lead. I did not need to. What surprised me was how quickly the joy returned.

Not a dramatic fireworks moment. Instead, a steady, grounded, inner YES!

A remembering.

Painting again felt like moving toward myself, not away from something else. And that right there is alignment.

Lately, that whisper has led me somewhere even bigger. I am currently working on a new piece to submit to my very first international art competition, something I never would have considered a year ago. That is what following a whisper does. It opens the door to a version of yourself you could not yet imagine.

Why This Matters

If there is one thing I know now, it is this. The quietest whispers are often the most truthful ones. We lose connection to them because the pace of life gets loud.

Technology gets loud. Expectations get loud. Responsibility gets loud.

But, our deeper knowing rarely shouts. It whispers. Which means alignment does not feel like pressure. It feels like a gentle pull.

This Is the Heart of A Life I Designed

Inside our signature course, A Life I Designed, we help you:

  • learn to hear your whisper again

  • decipher what it is calling you toward

  • create space in your life to honor it

  • take aligned action based on what feels true for you

It is not about adding more to your life. It is about coming home to who you already are. Whether your whisper is about creativity, career, purpose, place, relationships or season of life, your inner guidance is already speaking.

The question is, are you willing to listen?

Reflection Questions

This week, take time to pause and ask yourself:

  1. Where have I been ignoring a whisper because it does not seem logical?

  2. What small step could I take toward that whisper this week?

  3. What part of me is wanting expression, but has been waiting for permission?
